europa 1 - amsterdam 1

Amsterdam is a city of gentle, urban contrasts.
The bustle of city life slows down
between the canals of the Jordaan district
and flows into other areas of the city
as naturally as the water surrounding the land.

(Captions are some made-up photo titles in Dutch,
to make up for my lack of it while I was there.
Thank you Google Translate.)

Occasionally photos will have click-able links of interest attached.

Amsterdam harmony of color.
(Harmonie van kleuren)

Notice how the elements match.

photolink: Google StreetView of one of my neighborhood bakeries.
Near the apartment where I lived on Goudsbloemstraat
(Gold Flower Street) in Amsterdam.

Canal life, slow yet urbanized.
(Langzaam maar stedelijke)

photolink: The song is about finding your way.
Yvonne Elliman just popped up and it just seemed to fit.

From one bank to the next, with cruising in between.
(Cruises op het kanaal)

photolink: Borat in Amsterdam.

I later realized that this window mimicked the type of composition
a famous European artist used in painting in a local museum.
Spaces leading into doorways.
(Scène binnen een scène)

photolink: Rijksmuseum. The music is especially nice.
I saw alot of stuff on the video. A wonderful museum.

I called this one 'Quasimodo Condos' because it was black and white
and looked like it used to be an old prison or madhouse.
I wonder if it was a factory at one time. Medieval style condo living.
(Middeleeuwse stijl condo)

photolink: amstel light/ iamsterdam commercial.
it's an ad campaign for the beer (and the city).

In den gouden poort means 'In the golden gate'.
A wonderful dutch house.

photolink: Gruppo Sportivo covers Mexican Radio. Dutch new wave.
Their quirky words and scenarios (Henri) are bizarre and funny.
The Dutch are quite creative with almost everything.

photolinks for the following shots are of the actual photos themselves:

It was blue skies and spring warmth.
(Het was blauwe luchten en het voorjaar van warmte)

Flying bicycles. The black one was parked.
(Flying fietsen)

Outside a row house you found flowers, plants, trees.
(Bloemen buiten een 'rij huis')

These shots are of the Bloemenmarkt or Flower Market, truly amazing

photolink: Amsterdam markets (Other shots are photo only).

Thanks for visiting. I might be adding shots to this blogpost at some point.
