europa 3 - weilheim, frankfurt am main und ettal

Weilheim is where John lives
and it is a quaint, village-like town
outside the center of Munich.
He showed me his favorite, old city walls
I did not photograph them but we did stumble into churches and small squares.

The churches were very old
and the statuary seemed well preserved.
You felt like thousands had prayed there before you did..

Nearby, this 'store' entrance courtyard led into two shop doorways
(on either side of the camera, behind me)
and straight back (as you see) into a lovely courtyard garden
for the apartment/house attached out back.
The owner let us have a look and it was beautifully planted
and had a winding walk.

One of the small squares in very liveable Weileim.
Bakeries, cafes, food sellers and shops all around.

A small, manmade creek runs through
to a small millhouse (behind the camera).

Is John Shires a Municino?
Certo che c'e. (Of course he is!)

From Weilheim, we drove out to Ettal
an old monastery at the gateway to the Alps.

Uncle and nephew outside the big church.
The monks say vespers and it is an historical site.

Frankfurt is a very busy, modern metropolis
with an even busier airport.
The people are quite oriented towards their city.
I may devote more time on my next trip to exploring it more fully.

The view from on a cafe on top of a main department store.
See how they build around old construction.
The shopping district below is getting a face-lift.

I could not resist seeing more Frankfurt flowers in the parks.

The bridge near my Hotel Europa.
On the way to the museum embankment.
Steps from the train station.

At Restaurant Mullerin, where I had local Apfelwein (Apple wine)
and lovely boiled pork chop
with potatoes and sauerkraut.

The lovely, healing Apfelwein.
Comes in sweet or sour or mixed.
This is the mixed. Light and quite yum.
The end of another sunny day.
