sakura saku, sakura chiru--!

People pass in front of a row of exit doors at the pottery show.

"Sakura saku, sakura chiru." The sakura (cherry blossoms) are blossoming, that is 'sakura saku' in Japanese...it is also a metaphor for a 'success', especially in passing a test or challenge. It's opposite, 'sakura chiru', the blossoms have fallen, indicates failure. Quite poetic when you think about it. I have been enjoying the blossoming of all the trees, flowers, and shrubs around Fukuoka these days. The weather has been sunny most of the time. The pictures of the sakura were taken around Dazaifu and near Fukuoka castle ruins near downtown Fukuoka. Revelers take part in picnics under the trees on a carpet of flower petals (if they are lucky). Barbeques, drinking, and singing are what it is all about.

The other shots of flower arrangements (ikebana) and pottery are from a ceramics show I went to near Hakata port. The pottery was diverse and amazing. Enjoy the photos and have yourself a lovely spring~!
